Varieties
Nam Wah
Nam Wah bananas are native to the Southeast Asian peninsula of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The flesh is fragrant and dense with a juicy consistency and sweet flavor. The thin peel matures from green to yellow and is fully ripe when the peel is nearly black.
Mysore
Mysore banana plants are high yielding, making this one of the most commercially grown banana varieties in Southern India. Mysore bananas are primarily enjoyed as a dessert banana for their sweet and tangy taste.
Ice Cream / Blue Java
The Ice Cream Banana, also known as Blue Java Banana, is known for its ice cream-like flavor and light blue-green coloration. This variety is native to Southeast Asia. The fruit is medium-sized, with tough, thick skin that protects the flesh inside. It is known for its sweet, vanilla-like taste and texture that is reminiscent of ice cream.
Praying Hands
Praying Hands bananas have two adjacent hands of bananas fused together, giving them the appearance of praying hands. They are more than a collector's item or novelty: the fruit is delicious, with hints of vanilla and marshmallow. When fully ripe, individual bananas can be separated carefully without damaging the skin of the next banana in the bunch.
